At 1 a.m pn 3 February, 1959, with tour coaches breaking down in sub-zero temperatures, Buddy Holly, along with Richie Valens and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper), boarded a Beechcraft Bonanza at Mason City Airport to try to make the next date of the Winter Dance Party Tour in Minnesota. At 1.07 a.m., the plane crashed, killing all three passengers and pilot. Buddy Holly was twenty two and already world famous. Today, he remains one of the great Rock 'n Roll legends.
